Laila Soueif: Mother, Activist, and Role Model

On Mother’s Day, Salma El Tarzi highlights moments from the life of Egyptian academic Laila Soueif—the mother of activist Alaa Abdel Fattah—who went on a hunger strike for over 10 months in protest of her son’s continued imprisonment after his sentence had ended.

Solidarity, love, and appreciation for Dr. Laila and all that she embodies on this day and every day.

Artist and activist Chiarini.anna has kindly volunteered to translate and adapt Laila's comics to English.
